There’s no denying boardwalks are quintessential to the Jersey Shore experience, with many of the towns offering a wide range of entertainment options, including amusement parks, arcades, mini-golf courses, and restaurants.

Additionally, the Jersey Shore is a great place to enjoy the ocean; swimming, fishing, boating, and surfing are amongst the most popular activities. Many towns along the shore offer excellent recreational facilities in addition to parks, bike paths, and hiking trails

The Jersey Shore stretches for approximately 130 miles, but there are a handful of towns—Asbury Park, Point Pleasant Beach, Wildwood, Seaside Heights, and Ocean City—that stand out for their historic boardwalks and modern-day attractions.

Asbury Park: Asbury Park may be a small seaside town located on the Jersey coast, but it offers incredible music venues, vintage boutiques, and of course, beautiful beaches. Asbury’s famous Boardwalk was built around the late 1800s and is home to several amusement parks and the Silverball Museum, featuring over 600 vintage pinball machines and classic arcade games.

Besides its lively music scene, surfing is a big part of Asbury Park culture. Asbury Park is also home to many historic buildings and landmarks, including the historic Convention Hall and the famous Tillie mural.

Point Pleasant Beach: Point Pleasant Beach is a popular destination on the Jersey Shore, known for its family-friendly atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and lively attractions. Jenkinson’s Boardwalk is the centerpiece of Point Pleasant Beach, offering a variety of rides, games, and things to do for visitors of all ages. It’s also home to Jenkinson’s Aquarium.

The beautiful, wide beach with plenty of space for sunbathing, swimming, and playing in the sand. Point Pleasant Beach is also known for its excellent fishing, with freshwater and saltwater fishing opportunities. Visitors can go on a charter boat or rent a rod, reel, and fish from the beach or the nearby Manasquan River.

Seaside Heights: Seaside Heights is known for its lively Boardwalk, made famous by the reality TV show “Jersey Shore.” The Boardwalk features amusement parks, arcades, food stands, and a variety of other attractions.

A lot of action is packed into Seaside Heights’ 16-by-4-block beachside setting. The Boardwalk here is one of the busiest on the Jersey Shore, and Summertime brings free seaside entertainment, including fun festivals and weekly fireworks displays.

Ocean City: Ocean City is the ideal beach resort for families and anyone looking to escape the everyday hustle and bustle. The Ocean City boardwalk is two and a half miles long, and its eight miles of sandy beaches are perfect for jogging, walking, and finding a quiet place to picnic.

Two family-friendly amusement parks are located on the Ocean City boardwalk, including Gillian’s Wonderland Pier and Playland’s Castaway Cove. These parks feature a variety of thrilling rides, fun  games, and interesting attractions for visitors of all ages.

Wildwoods: Further south along the Jersey Shore, you’ll find one of the world’s most extensive boardwalks in Wildwood. The 2.5-mile Wildwood Boardwalk has several amusement parks (over 100 rides!) and water parks. It is home to several historical and cultural attractions, including the most extensive collection of mid-20th century architecture, Doo Wop Architecture, that made the Wildwoods famous in the ’50s.

This popular Jersey Shore destination has received honors and accolades from Time.com, USAToday, Lonely Planet, Forbes Traveler, CNN Travel, and National Geographic. Wildwoods hosts over 160 festivals and events annually, from Italian and Irish ethnic festivals to Classic Car Shows, music and food festivals, and more.

Overall, the boardwalk towns along the Jersey Shore are its main attraction, offering interesting activities, refreshing beaches, and exciting entertainment options. For those desiring a slower pace, many towns have parks, museums, and nature reserves to explore.

The Jersey Shore is famous for so many things, from its stunning coastal scenery to its beachside towns and vibrant nightlife. But that’s not all. Wildlife and recreation destinations near the Jersey Shore include Cape May County Park & Zoo, Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, and Barnegat Lighthouse State Park.

It’s no wonder millions of people love going to the Jersey Shore any chance they get.
